Week 8 -Flow Matters: Transforming Rooms (and Attitudes!) One Space at a Time

I'm obsessed with spaces and the way they're used. Seriously—if the energy isn’t flowing or a room feels neglected, it drives me crazy. I'm constantly thinking about ways to rearrange and improve spaces, whether they're in my own home or somewhere I'm just visiting. You know those Airbnb signs that say, “Do not rearrange furniture”? Yeah, they're probably meant for people like me.

But it's not just furniture and decor—I love systems thinking, processes, and organization in my job because it’s all about creating flow. Clear processes and thoughtfully designed systems eliminate friction and make everything work more smoothly. Spaces are no different. Cluttered, neglected spaces create bottlenecks—just like inefficient processes do in business. It’s all connected.

This week, I found immense joy rearranging the room for the kids' program I volunteer with. Those big chairs causing constant arguments? Turned them into a cozy reading nook. Problem solved. Similarly, when I left my last job, we came together and created a "Zen Zone," transforming our quasi-break room into a peaceful, mindful retreat. Not only was it incredibly fun, but it also significantly improved everyone's mood and productivity.

Then there was my friend's cluttered kitchen counter, practically begging for help. I rescued an unused drawer set from my mom’s place—talk about blocked energy!—and helped reorganize my friend’s space. Immediate improvement. At home, swapping two kitchen chairs for swivel ones on wheels meant suddenly everyone started sitting at the table. Magic, right?

Flow matters—in spaces, in systems, and in life.

Coffee Dates & Connections

I also had two coffee dates with women I hadn’t connected with one-on-one before—both strong, talented individuals. We shared knowledge, brainstormed ways to improve our environments, and discussed community-building efforts. The energy exchange was inspiring.

Finally had the much-anticipated SSA call with my mom, so hopefully, that's nearly resolved, and she can breathe easier soon.

I even taught an elderly neighbor how to use ChatGPT, helping him find a solution to a problem he'd been stuck on. That felt amazing.

And we watched a baby on the one-year anniversary of a difficult foster placement transition—bittersweet, but healing.

Plus, my neighbor and friend, an aspiring artist, might just have a new client now. Yay! Next up? Automating tasks for our civic association. Because honestly, it's time.
