Week 12- KPOP and Hunting Demons

I’m now in my final week of summer service, which means last week was my second-to-last. Really, what this all means is that I’ll stop doing this blog soon—though the service itself won’t stop. Civic duties are more like a job at this point, and honestly, it’s a tough one. No boss, no pay, no official commitment—just politics, some high-value work, and a whole lot of administrative tasks. Sprinkle in some event planning, and you’ve got the gist.

I get why people don’t volunteer. If I hadn’t had this summer off, there’s no way I could’ve gotten a handle on it. Writing processes from scratch? It feels doomed sometimes. But one of my goals—aside from the obvious “do good in the community”—is to create systems so clear that anyone can pick them up and run with them. At any rate, service will always be part of my life. It has to be. It’s not just an obligation; it actually benefits me, too.

Now, about those KPOP Demon Hunters. Yes, you read that right. And if you’re a parent of teens, maybe you neverwant to hear those words again. But it’s good. To me, it’s about how adults created this fractured world, and the youth—through courage and song—are fixing it. I even got teary-eyed.

This week wasn’t without its heaviness. Our family was touched by an overdose and by a grave injustice to a man, his family, and our whole community. We’ve got to do better, people.

On a lighter note, I had a few adventures with my teenager: an impromptu Korean BBQ, and a very strange “dump” excursion that taught us ceramic tile disposal is not as straightforward as you’d think. And in between all that, I’ve been working a lot on my new business idea. I keep going back and forth, changing things, but at some point you just have to pick a direction and move. It took me months to get to that realization, but now that I’m here, I’m excited.

Okay—until next time. See you in the final post!
