Week 13- That’s a Wrap
My summer of service has come to a close. It’s been transformative—not so much the service part itself (I’ve been doing that long enough to know its power), but the gift of time: time to think, to connect, to learn, and to set myself up for the kind of impact I believe is necessary.
That impact, for me, looks like contributing to constructive, integrative processes for humanity as a whole. Things like universal education, elimination of prejudice, equality of women and men, and the development of character through virtues and spiritual growth. Big stuff. And yet, it all has to start somewhere.
I tend to think of my life in four parts:
My inner self
My family
My community work
My paid employment
Ideally, all four align with that greater goal.
With myself, I’m on solid footing—I’m a lifelong learner, always hungry for growth. With my family, it feels natural; our small size leaves space for deep connection and communication. Community, though? That’s where it gets messy. Public safety, race relations, socioeconomic differences—these are tough, sticky problems in my neighborhood. Honestly, it would be easier to stay home and mind my own business (and sometimes I really want to!). But my problem-solving nature and love of bringing people together usually drag me right back into the work.
And then there’s employment—a piece of the puzzle currently in transition. My guiding principle is this: work should never conflict with my values. Ideally, it should align fully. That’s what I’m building with my new venture, Team by Team.
The focus? AI readiness. I believe AI could be one of the greatest forces for transformation in human history—but whether that shift is positive or negative depends on us. My aim is to help organizations form smart, safe, effective teams as they adopt AI, because ultimately, it’s teamwork that builds the foundation for progress. Families in communities, teams in organizations—when they thrive, the whole world benefits.
So that’s it, folks. A chapter closes, and another begins. Check in with me if you’d like to know how it’s going. I’d love to hear if anything here resonated with you.
Take care, and wish me luck.
